Personal Growth
It's a struggle that most don't know
Because on my face
It did not show
I carried a glow
Focusing on
Being that pro
Of
What others said
Would make me flow
I
Walked and talked
Carrying the unknown
Because it was unshown
In the most obvious way
Of being known
So
Others did not speculate
On the problem that had grown
Or fuse that had blown
Becuase I was the one
With the neutral tone
I lived and survived
Carrying the unknown vibe
That I was afraid
That I would die
While still living
This emotional lie
And I worried this
While watching the time
Steadily tick by
I carried the tale
That many said meant I failed
So
I struggled within myself
But always prevailed
I struggled through and made it out
So now I celebrate
Because I know what it's about
It's not what others see
That makes me Cortiss
It's what's been put in
And what's been growin'
The struggles I had some say
Make me a victim
But I say victim or not
It's victory I've got
I've overcome and prevailed
And that's the story I tell
It's not a pitch or pun
Or item I sell
And you don't have to understand
Because that's cool
That's part of my growth
I thought you knew!
The stuff that's thrown
That once was unshown
Doesn't make this sista'
Or mix me in a twista'
I'm up past that
Earned my stat'
And I'm moving on
Because from that I've grown
Personal growth
A struggle most don't know
Because on my physical face
It did not show
Because on my face

A different view
Women often complain that men are not understanding; too physical, empty or dense thinkers, shallow, as well as superficial.
They are not understanding individuals because “they just don’t get” what we mean, are not willing to comply, or seem to brush off our issue as something small. Then they are considered too physical because “all they ever notice” is the physical aspects of a woman. “She’s got great eyes, perfect, all white, straight smile, she’s proportionate in every way imaginable, she dresses perfectly, up-to-date, perfect complexion, nails always done, perfect, hair, yada, yada, yada”.
Next, they’re either empty-headed or too dense to ever “get” anything. We consider them empty if they do not relate at all to what we are talking about, if they can’t give us a direct answer or way to fix something, or if they seem to focus on only one thing. Men are dense if they make repetitive mistakes and we just can’t figure out why; if they give us the same response more than twice, or if they can’t or don’t complete a task the way WE want it done. Women consider men shallow if their focus is on something other than “gettin’ money”. I suppose men should not be attracted to games, intimacy, sports, or the other likes pertaining to MANhood.
Last but not least, men are stereotyped as superficial if they prefer a woman with a job, career goals, plans, her own money, bank account, car, style, mind, and such. A man is dubbed as superficial for being attracted to these things thus his being labeled as shallow, too physical, and empty. Talk about domino effect!
WOW!!! Now how fair is this? How on earth are men not considered as understanding? Sure there are those ruthless guys our there who really are not concerned with a woman’s thoughts and/or feelings, but there are those who genuinely are. What we women FAIL at UNDERSTANDING ourselves, is that God made man different from woman. If he thought the same as we did, how would problems become solved? If he chose to sob and cry every time we did, what kind of help would he be to us? Furthermore, we women KNOW we can switch up on what we want and expect; gotta give men their credit for always attempting to keep up with our demands.
Next, we women know we enjoy to be noticed. We want a man to notice our looks, our shape, our clothes, our assets, but if he is “too physical” how can he do this? If a man is rejected every time he compliments, first, what he sees, then what do we expect him to do? On the flip side, we women KNOW we are known for rejecting a guy simply because he doesn’t have those hazel eyes, chiseled chest, perfect style, or breath-taking smile. Men are too physical? Now, onto how men think. As stated earlier, they are made different from women, thus thought patterns are not the same. Women, we can be quite empty and shallow ourselves for wanting a man solely for his good looks, money, and status. And how many times do you think men become frustrated because we don’t understand them? Ladies, if you want someone to respond the same as you, call up your girlfriend and have her cry with you. Then when you’re finished, go back to your man and continue the conversation. Women can also be dense in the mind because sometimes, we only see things from our perspective. We become clouded with our perception that we shut out any and everything else.
And last but not least, women are the queens of being superficial. If a man loses his job and that bothers him, we automatically begin nagging, call him worthless, lazy and our attraction for him drops. Funny, if a many does this, he is just all our wrong. If he doesn’t dress the same or smell the same, or doesn’t do any other physical thing we could fathom, we become upset. Yet men are too superficial?
In conclusion, I would just like to state that the best way for a relationship or bond to last is to allow that other person to be themselves. Yes men are quirky, but goodness, we women are too. I bet if we stopped focusing on any and every stereotype, we’d be happier as individuals, friends, and couples. Sometimes his changing jobs, is best. Sometimes it’s good for him to express that he likes to see you in A-line, pleated skirts that stop just below your knee, or that he likes when you wear your hair down. That is not being too physical; that’s him telling you what he likes….thus his attention remaining on you!
We should be careful to not become too critical because in doing so we push away the ones we love, as well as those who love us. Both men and women are imperfect in their respective ways. Stop judging books by their cover and instead, read them. Stop living according to stereotype, but according to the real type.

2009 Wrap-Up
In 2009
I obtained my wings, I learned to fly
And I flew high
I flew above some troubles, and above some stains
Soared over bad memories, and higher than some pain
I walked down low, and learned to grow
Gathered in much, that I did not know
I met real love, and held its hand
I experienced the sincerity, of a few real friends
I had some good days, that I shall never forget
As well as few bad ones, but the lessons did stick
I travelled new roads, and began a new journey
Called “placing yourself first”, oh, I am still learning
I received constructive criticisms, as well as good advice
Mended some relationships, being chilled by negative ice
I got some new family members, and acquired a few new titles
I learned how to be bold, as well as sit quiet a while
I found my lion’s bite, as my mother for long had prayed
And began to speak my mind, no longer just accepting what others gave
I re-evaluated my inner self, and began to soul search again
So that by New Year’s night arrival, I’d have what I need to win
I lost some leaves, and pruned branches of dead weight
But I also met a few great people
Who accepted all of me, Cortiss
From very beginning, to very end
I made some tough decisions, some I never thought I’d have
Had to cry it out a few times, but even in that I am glad
For I learned to trust myself again, and how to stand up strong
Learned to fight for all I know I want, no matter for how far or long
Toward the end of the year
I acquired some questions, that caused my soul unrest
But I’m battling through it, and I will pass
Because this is just a test!
In 2009
I acquired much
And much I won’t let go
And in 2010 I will apply it all
Because this is my year to win!

Wally World- No Companion- The Tale of A Black Woman Looking for Love Part 1
Hey everyone. I hope that you all had a wonderful and safe Christmas and New Years'. I wanted to write about something that came to my attention and is starting to get a lot of media attention as well. The number of African American females who are fail to get married or steady relationships is on the rise. Watch this video and then read my summary and advice. ( Follow the link; copy and paste it)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJGMAhWpDF8&feature=player_embedded#
After Watching the video myself I came to a conclusion about black women. Most of your men problems are problems that you create yourself. Point blank.
Black women do either one of two things- They either make unrealistic demands when it comes to looking for a man or they simply fall for a dude who aint got nothin goin for himself and then she assume that all black men are dogs.
Lets begin with the latter. I see it everyday. A young black women who is very attractive and smart, is complaining about her man and why he does her the way he does. Nine times outta ten you heard about how he was before yall got together. And 10 times outta those 10 he gon do the same shit to you that he did to his past women. Now the women is pissed at the man for not treating her right, but in truth it was her not doing right by herself.
Todays black female doesnt notice the black guy who does the right thing until he gets to that point where either- 1. His pockets are fat 2. He got something she can benefit from. Most black women love a dude who runs the streets, makes alot of money (illegally) and has a decent car. Its simply the fast life. As many of you reading this know, the fast life always comes to an end. Many of these dudes doesnt just have one girlfriend and if a women is dumb enough to believe that then all i can do is shake my head. Come on ladies think. Most of yall looking for the same thing in the hood and dont you think that if a dude has a chance to get his with another women and keep you (without you knowing) that he aint gon do it.
The sad and most sicking part about the situation is that (some) black women feel that if they get pregnant by the dude it will "change" him. WRONG. He still going to cheat on you, lie to you and most likely do it even more. Now the women is stuck with a child that she most likely raising by herself and leading down the same path that the father or mother went through thus continuing the cycle.
Ladies you say that we are dogs but answer this: If you is a lose pitt bull in the street would you walk to it and pet it or turn around and walk away? Many of you let men be dogs and can not blame them for being them, but you have to blame yourself for choosing them and note having enough moral courage to better your situation.
*Note- I know that not all of our black women are like this but make sure you read every part this week before you pass judgement on what im saying.
* Im not saying that men are right and Im not saying yall wrong. All Im sayin is that we all make dumb mistakes im just helping opening eyes. I will be doing a version from a womens view after I complete this project.
